With all those thoughts in mind, you decide to examine hardware RAID as an option. What advantages does hardware RAID provide See Lesson 4 for some of the answers. Open Internet Explorer and browse to the Web site(s) of one or more computer hardware and supply vendors. Search their sites for RAID arrays. You will find RAID arrays, which include disk drives, and RAID controllers and RAID enclosures, to which you must add drives. Focus on the ready-to-go RAID arrays and answer the following questions:

After determining what configuration settings you have to deploy to your workstations, you must consider how to deploy them. Sitting down at every Windows 7 computer and manually configuring the settings you want to apply is obviously a tedious and impractical solution, even for a small number of workstations. Fortunately, you can choose from a number of tools to deploy configuration settings to a large number of workstations. These are the primary tools desktop administrators typically use for this purpose:

Advanced Security is likely to focus on program-based and port-based rules rather than on predefined rules. The next step after either specifying a program or a protocol and port is to specify what the firewall should do when traffic meeting that criteria is encountered. On this page, shown in Figure 8-11, you can select Allow The Connection, Allow The Connection If It Is Secure, or Block The Connection. You would use the blocking option if you wanted to keep someone who was using the computer from using a particular program or protocol. A good example of this is blocking the use of a file sharing program. After you have decided on an action, you need to specify the network profiles the rule will apply to and decide on a meaningful name and description for the rule. Names and descriptions are important because in 12 months time, when you are examining the firewall configuration of a Windows Vista computer that you set up, you will want to quickly ascertain what you were trying to accomplish with a particular rule. If you use something like Ian s Rule, you will have to edit the properties of the rule to figure out what the rule actually does.

Windows Fax and Scan allows you to utilize a scanner and modem to create the functionality of a normal fax. Unlike previous versions of Windows, where Faxing and Scanning were separate applications, integrating both into one place simplifies the process of using your computer as a fax machine. Properly configured, Windows Fax and Scan allows people to stop using fax machines entirely, just as a properly configured computer with Windows Media Center can allow people to stop using DVD players and videocassette recorders.

In this exercise, you install Internet Information Services (IIS) on Computer2 and create a default Web page for the Web site. Before you perform this exercise, make sure you have inserted the Windows Server 2003 Setup CD-ROM into Computer2. 1. From Computer2, log on to Domain1 as Administrator. 2. In Control Panel, open Add Or Remove Programs. The Add Or Remove Programs window opens. 3. Click the Add/Remove Windows Components button. The Internet Information Services (IIS) check box is selected along with the Enable Network COM+ Access check box. 7. Click OK. 8. On the Windows Components page, click Next. The Configuring Components page appears while the new Windows component is installed. After installation is complete, the Completing The Windows Compo nents Wizard page appears. 9. Click Finish. 10.
